From raw crystal to jewelry

Every day, we work with gemstones whose journey from the mine to our studio in Zug we know inside out. This fills us with joy and awe. When we visit the mining sites in Africa, we see first-hand how long and arduous the search for these precious stones is. This makes it all the more wonderful when a miner finds a crystal and proudly presents it to us. When the stone sparkles in the Namibian sun upon closer inspection, it is a wonderful moment every time. At the same time, it motivates us to create a unique piece of jewellery.

When examining the rough crystal, we can often already see the final colour and, in most cases, the cut that is suitable for the piece of jewellery (e.g. cushion, square, pear cut). Nevertheless, we are often surprised by our stone cutter, who comes up with his own new ideas after his professional analysis of the stone. Ultimately, we always work as a team.

Our goal is always to be able to cut a beautiful pair, preferably as large as possible. Unfortunately, there are limits to this desire, as the absolutely inclusion-free tourmaline material from Namibia is simply too rare. As a result, we often work with high-quality individual stones in our goldsmith’s workshop.
We always stay in contact with the miners, give them feedback and show them the beautiful jewellery we create from the stones. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why we always try to keep the gemstone at the centre of our jewellery designs and not steal the show with an overly elaborate design.
